Skittles Touch!

The other day our friend Ryan sent me a link to these awesome ads for everyone's favorite candy; Skittles! These ads are seriously amazing, but you have to participate when it asks you to!

So do it!

The cat one is clearly the best, but I also got a kick out of the serious creeper nature of this one.

I don't know much else about the campaign, but you can find out who made it here.

The Art of Disney Animation

I was sent this link from one of my students (thank you, Brianna!), and haven't been able to stop looking through this gallery. It's a French blog, so unless you're skilled in the language the words will remain a mystery, but the images more than make up for it.
It was really difficult picking images to post–there are so many good ones and I haven't even seen them all!

Ben Thomas

We had an earlier post about the tilt shift photography of Olivo Barbieri, some fantastic stuff that pushes the "teeny tiny" look to the max. Ben Thomas is another tilt shift master–with a focus on cities, much to my delight.

Gift Complaint Form

Wire & Twine is a small studio that works out of shop on a small farm. They found that they were always just making things, so they decided to start a business around that. Seems like they have a cool thing going.

This past holiday season, they shared a free Gift Complaint Form that you can include in the box when you give a gift.

donotwant_1

This would have come in handy since it seems like I know someone with a birthday for every day in March (including Lindsay and Francesca!).

Alex MacLean

Alex MacLean is a pilot and photographer. As he flies over the country, he photographs the patterns and effect that man has on the landscape. It makes for some surreal photos.

Some are even downright haunting. Check out his site because there's a lot to see, and this smaller size doesn't do them justice.

Game Deaths

Death has always been a part of video games. Older arcade games were designed to steal your quarters, and it was pretty much impossible not to die.

Here's a cute video of a whole bunch of death from old video games, set to a Midi rendition of Tears for Fears Mad World.

Let's all take a moment to reflect about days gone by.

Art of the Title

I love title sequences in movies. It's like a chance to put a self-contained little statement at the beginning of your movie and a lot of films make great use of that opportunity.

Ian Albinson, Founder and editor-in-chief of Art of the Title, put together this amazing collection of title sequences through the years, aptly called The Art of the Title Sequence.

Ahhh, the memories and good times come flooding back. Also, this video gets a big thumbs-up for using music by one of my favorite musicians, RJD2.

Peter Crawley

Peter Crawley is a product designer who also happens to create stitched illustrations. Each piece is produced by hand piercing paper and stitching linework in with a needle and thread.

What at first blush looks like a clean, almost vector-like drawing turns into something much more delicate and unique under close scrutiny.

The Giants

Giants_Screen_1

The Giants is a series of animated shorts about 'the adventures of Giants and their conflicts with the humans.' And I love them so so much.

I can't seem to find out much about the pair that created these excellent movies, bseides that fact that they're named CĂ©Line and Yann (probably). They do great work, however.

Not only is every frame a beautiful masterpiece worthy of framing, but the sound design by David Kamp is spot-on (and who also has a lot of nice work on his site).

Earth Day 2011

I know Earth Day isn't until April 22, but that's just one month away! I wanted to give you the chance to prepare by buying this t-shirt I designed for I'm Organic.

Not only are they Organic and Made-in-the-US of A, but they will only be around until Earth Day! Limited edition!

You can grab the shirt here, and do it quick! Because when it's gone, it's gone!

(P.S. Keep you eyes on I'm Organic. They're under new ownership and they want to improve the art and design of their products! I've already done another 6 designs that will be arriving soon, with more to come!)

Eunsuk Hur

Eunsuk Hur is inspired by the 'fundamental geometric structure and patterns of growth found in nature'. Her multi-layered creations in textile, fashion and interior design are intensely complex and inspiring.

A Graphic Cosmogony

A Graphic Cosmogony is a comics compendium by the ever-amazing publisher NoBrow. It features comics by 24 artists, each telling their version of a tale about the formation of the universe. Or something.

Some of my favorite artists are represented, like Stuart Kolakovic and Mikkel Sommer (previously posted). The whole package is a beautiful thing...

Happy Birthday Lindsay!

Today was Lindsay's birthday! Wow!

We celebrated by going to a 4 hour long cake decorating class for the beginning of the day...

...and then having some close friends over and partying all night with her new present; a Kinect and a copy of Dance Central!

The best picture of the night was taken towards the very end of the night by our friend Chris. This is Adam tearing it up like only he can:

adam_dance_central

To be honest, the technology worked pretty flawlessly (especially considering we had 3+ people dancing at once, with dogs milling around our feet) and it was a blast. Everyone was laughing, sweating and dancing like crazy!

The only one still skeptical was Oliver the Cat. He just can't be pleased.

All-in-all, it was a pretty low-key, but super fun day! Happy birthday Lindsay!

Wayne White

Wayne White's word paintings are impressive and funny. There are hundreds of them to click through on his site, so obviously there's too many great ones to post.

But what makes Wayne White even more awesome is that he was a designer for Pee-Wee's Playhouse and won three Emmys for his work! Awesome!

Kim Holm

I remember when deer imagery was really cool. Then, a while later, it was kinda played out. Whether it's in or not, this music video, created by Kim Holm for Matta, rocks my face.

Paperfox Press

Paperfox Press is a team of four illustrators from the United Kingdom. I was drawn to them in principle–a team of illustrators! They do collaborative work! It was even more exciting when I found out they've made posters for Artcrank, their own British version of the thing we know and love.

the Broadview Blog

Take a gander at the digital landscape/setting work of Robh, who is my new favorite cg painting master. His pieces look photo real, but he's also generous enough to include some process that makes it very clear these aren't photographs.

You can see close up views of his pieces on the blog. He also has an assortment of beautiful plein air paintings. He makes on them on his iPad, naturally.

Graham Annable

Graham Annable's art and animation is unmistakable; the sketchy line work, bizarre humor and lingering, tension-filled static shots...

I recently introduced Lindsay to his work via the stellar Puzzle Agent, a puzzle-based, Fargo-inspired videogame. She's been a fan ever since (despite never being able to remember his name).

I saw via his Twitter that he just put up a new animation, The Smartest Dog in the World.

You can see all his animations on his youtube page.

On a side note, I was stoked to hear Telltale Games is continuing the Puzzle Agent series:

Perfect!
