Campbell Whyte

Campbell Whyte is taking on a pretty huge challenge: making a piece of art for every Nintendo game released (English-language releases only) in the order they were released.

The series is off to a strong start, with Campbell making one small painting a day. But with about 800 Nintendo games to work through, he'll be doing it for a while. Good luck!

Shenzhen: A Travelogue from China

Traveling and seeing new places is the golden highlight of my life. Whoever has the chance to experience a new place, I encourage and envy you. But if right now you don't have the time or funds for traveling, you can always read about it until you can.
One of my favorite graphic novels is Shenzhen:A Travelogue from China.



Guy Delisle relates his experience in China as a foreigner who doesn't speak the language, and there's something kind of comforting in reading about his experience.

Mikkel Sommer

I am crazy about the way Mikkel Sommer draws his characters! Be sure to check out his his blog while you're at it.







How can you not love this? I mean, Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike!?! C'mon! The guy is awesome!

Scott Campbell's Sketchfest Poster

Scott C is one of my favorite artists. I could tell you to go read his comics, or play his games, or just buy his sweet art all day long. And you should.

Recently, he painted a poster for the SF Sketchfest depicting all the performers involved. When I first saw this poster, it was out of context so I didn't realize what I was looking at. I was amazed at how many people I was still able to instantly recognized despite the simple, silly style.

So there you have it. I just chose one piece to share, because I reserve right to do a Scott C post whenever I like. Deal with it.

Cat vs Human - just like real life

These comics pretty much sum up most of what happens in the real lives of some of us here at Paper Bicycle. Catversushuman is an amazing webcomic by Yasmine Surovec - in which she details out what all cat lovers understand: The Beautiful World of Cat Friendship.

Batman: The Animated Series

Does everybody remember this show? Or how well-designed it was? I forgot until a little bit ago, when I stumbled across this article about the title cards. These images work as stand-alone illustrations but also do a great job of heading what was often a pretty eerie episode.





With influence in noir film, 30s-40s design style and a score by Danny Elfman, the show retains entertainment quality. The stylization is really appropriate and enhances rather than cheapens the stories. A number of the stories themselves are really good, too!

It was also a relief to know it's available on Amazon.

Skullyplush

Chris Schons is an amazing comic artist with a passion for toys, video games and nerd culture. He's also a close personal friend of Paper Bicycle.

He just recently completed his first round of Skullyplush, a line of stuffed characters created to honor the tiny, pixelated heroes who risk life and limb to entertain us daily.

Natasha Allegri

Natasha Allegri is so amazing in so many different ways. She is currently working on Adventure Time! for Cartoon Network with Pendleton Ward. Her styles are so amazing and diverse. Truly talented.
