Daily Pattern: Disco Ball
I'm attempting a little catch-up on those patterns that I've dropped the last few weeks (months?) A disco ball was one of things on my brainstorm list for "Dance Club". When I thought about it a little more, I decided the best thing about a disco ball is the incredible spectrum of colors that happen in different environments. It's also one spectacular example of what relative color can do. This pattern is another one that's more "disco ball inspired" than "disco ball".

Daily Pattern - Jitterbug
Cut a rug with these little bugs! Everyone in this bug-dance-club is having a great time. They're all related, celebrating a bug-wedding reception! The bride and groom must have stepped out for pictures! Silly bugs, keep on dancing!

Daily Pattern: Taptaptap
I am in no way a dancer but I do like fancy jazz and tap shoes! They are possibly a little bit more mafia than jazz but nevermind!

Daily Pattern: Wedding Rings
I made a super light blue pattern, but when I saw how light Francesca and Lindsay's patterns were, I switched it to a darker blue. Maybe it's too dark for most wedding occasions?

I'm not sure why both Lindsay and I decided on blue, anyway. After all, our own wedding was decidedly orange and pink. Also, it was an old-school dance par-tay. But you don't' have to take my word for it!

Care Center Slaughterhouse
Ben Martin is a great friend of mine who's super creative and has an awesome sense of humor. He recently put together a faux-horror trailer called for Hobo with a Shotgun trailer contest.

It's gross, so be warned.
Do me a huge favor and vote for Care Center Slaughterhouse right now! Voting ends super soon, so do it now!
Help Ben out! He'll let you run your fingers through his suave mustache as a reward if he wins!

Happy Birthday Lindsay!
Today was Lindsay's birthday! Wow!
We celebrated by going to a 4 hour long cake decorating class for the beginning of the day...

...and then having some close friends over and partying all night with her new present; a Kinect
and a copy of Dance Central
!

The best picture of the night was taken towards the very end of the night by our friend Chris. This is Adam tearing it up like only he can:

To be honest, the technology worked pretty flawlessly (especially considering we had 3+ people dancing at once, with dogs milling around our feet) and it was a blast. Everyone was laughing, sweating and dancing like crazy!
The only one still skeptical was Oliver the Cat. He just can't be pleased.

All-in-all, it was a pretty low-key, but super fun day! Happy birthday Lindsay!

Sword Shadow Dance
Sword Shadow Dance was produced for the Galaxy Theatre in Tokyo, Japan. It combines animation and projection with some sweet sword skills to create a totally unique and amazing performance that wouldn't be out of place in a crazy anime.

Mollinex + Kinect
Just last night we almost bought a Kinect
, the new motion sensor peripheral for Xbox 360. We had it in our hands; Lindsay was chomping at the bit to play some Dance Central
.
But (being the nerd I am) I've followed all the hands-on impressions and coverage since it was launched and I don't think we have the proper space or lighting to make it work right. Although I wish I did.
As cool as Dance Central is, what hackers and modders have been doing with the hardware even cooler.
For instance, Mollinex created this video for their song,Catalina using the data pulled from Kinect's 3-D depth-sensing camera.
I might try to round up a lot of cool kinect hacks for a future post. There's a lot of cool stuff happening around that tech.

Die Antwoord

You can finally buy $o$, the first full-length album from Die Antwoord. If you love bizarre, catchy, vaguely shocking (?) music and don't mind a heavy dose of absurdity they're definitely worth checking out.
Lindsay should really be writing this post, since she's been a little infatuated with them for about a year or so. If she had the chance, I think she would run off with the group's frontman, Ninja. And maybe I have a tiny crush on the group's (also tiny) female lead, Yo-Landi Vi$$er. Maybe.
I could post videos all day, but I think this one sums it up nicely:
Die Antwoord is a sexy and strangely lovable team.

Rain Dance
Paper Bicycle, as a studio, loves to get down. When we come to a party we come to dance, no questions asked.
But these guys are so awesome it kind of makes me want to never try to dance again. Because I will always think about this video and realize I could never be so dope.
