Daily Pattern: A little light

We were working on patterns in my digital illustration class at MCAD on Friday and I made most of this for a demo! I'm excited to see what they make - those guys always make the coolest stuff. (Plus, I'm a bit partial to the topic this time!) I was teaching them how to make Damask patterns (which are super fun, by the way). So... Here's mine!

Daily Pattern: Pencil Stitches

This pattern is another experiment with some abstract work. I mentioned in an earlier post that I've been interested in the trend to make designs that are inspired by shapes found in nature. This pattern developed from some brushy plant tufts I had in my sketchbook. I wanted to add a little color and tried to imagine how much and in what way I would like to see it on a bag.

Daily Pattern: Versailles

“I was recently lucky enough to travel to France, and spent a day at Versailles. I just loved Marie Antoinette's little farm - the houses were so cute! The scenery, art and furniture of Versailles were definitely an inspiration to me, especially all of the wonderful damask patterns - I have photos of the wallpaper and textiles alone! I added a sun into the pattern as a tribute to Louis the XIV, the Sun King.”

Daily Pattern: Golden Gate

Someday I will have the pleasure of visiting this city and I will find a new thing to replace the Golden Gate bridge as it's one and only symbol. Any San Francisco art I have made–this piece included–seems to imply that I think it's comprised of only a bridge.

Daily Pattern: Dinner Setting

There are a lot of pieces to a formal dinner place setting. The forks alone for a dinner party would fill a kitchen sink. This is no where near a complete setting, but it fits this damask a little better.

Daily Pattern : Mouse Nest & Late Night Livestream

I had a couple mice in college! Can you believe it? I had four of them and they were all different colors. They were the nicest. I think about getting some occasionally when I'm at the pet store, but I think I'm at my pet limit. Tonight I decided to go old-school and paint this the way I would in painter. It was a blast and I am so glad I did it!

I also repeated it a little so you can see my mouse-nest Damask!

The whole time I was drawing this in Painter, I was listening to my new favorite jams, and I actually decided to live stream this piece!

Daily Pattern: Fall Damask

I thought i'd kick start the day with my daily pattern. Fall is my favorite season, even though it's far too short! I thought I'd keep it classy with a damask style pattern made of colorful leaves, a pumpkin, and some acorns. This pattern was completely hand drawn, and colored in Photoshop.
