I wasn't able to find a lot of information about Typoe apart from a flickr page, but his piece, Confetti Death, is pretty damn awesome.

Anna-Wili Highfield

Anna-Wili Highfield is an Australian artist who's paper bird sculptures are both delicate and rugged.

The daughter of a puppeteer, she paints and then stitches together cotton paper to create these beautiful sculptures that seem like they could spring to life despite their material.

Houston

There is absolutely no information about this artist, other than their name might be Houston (thanks to the clever URL and his Vimeo username. I even checked the source code of the site, and found all the images labeled with HOUSTON). Hmmm. It's a mystery to me.

That doesn't make me like these sculptures, installations and photographs any less.

Vhils

Alexandre Farto (aka Vhils) is a Portuguese street artist who uses unconventional materials and scale to create his art.

In this video for Orelha Negra, he turns the art into performance by using explosives to do the dirty work.

Eszter Burghardt

Eszter Burghardt is a Canadian/Hungarian artist with a passion for Iceland. And who can blame her? After completing a residency in Iceland, she began projects that recreated that epic scenery on a miniature scale.

The first series on her site, Edible Vistas, uses food (such as poppy seeds, coco powder, coffee, milk and chocolate cake crumbs) to recreate the varied and peculiar landscape of remote Iceland.





The second series, Wooly Sagas uses Icelandic wool to similar effect.





I've visited Iceland and found it immensely inspiring. I took over a thousand photos while I was there, but I think Eszter's dioramas recreate the calm and strange beauty of Iceland more convincingly than my snapshots of the real deal.

Motohiko Odani

Motohiko Odani is a celebrated Japanese sculptor who makes fantastically bizarre and beautiful sculptures.







I love it; otherworldly but still distinctly Japanese.

He currently has a solo show at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo called Phantom Limb. I'd be amazing to see it in person.

Pablo Reinoso

We're redoing the upstairs studio in our house and toying with the idea of a central workspace with benches.

I started a meandering internet search for benches and ended up floored by the work of Pablo Reinoso, who has made some crazy awesome benches in his time.







Check out his site because he makes a lot more than benches. Although there's a fair amount of furniture and functional items, he also created a lot of beautiful installations.

Helmut Smits

Helmut Smits is a clever guy. He's all about ideas and his work just makes you smile. He's so full of ideas, in fact, that there's a section of his site dedicated to rough ideas for projects that he just hasn't got around to yet (and maybe never will).

It's often not only the image itself, but also the title or description of materials that transforms what you're looking at.

Kim Burke

You can buy collectible tiny food from your local Japanese import store. Those are pretty amazing, and I confess I am guilty of buying quite a few little sets, but they're nothing on the handmade creations of Kim Burke.


The textures she pulls off at such a tiny scale are incredible.


Each piece has it's own sheen.


Her cat is pretty impressed, too. Or maybe upset, since it's too small and inedible to eat.
Look at her Flickr for a ton (a gram?) more cool work. She sells things on Etsy, too!

Festival Cinq Saisons 2010

Festival Cinq Saisons (Five Seasons Festival) takes place in the French town of Chaudfontaine. I don't know much more about it because I don't speak French. Sorry.

But the work on display is very, very cool.

Fred Eerdekens

Fred Eerdekens creates sculptures that may not look particularly special at first glance. Once properly lit, however, they become almost magical.
