PAPER DAYS OF CHRISTMAS–Winter Frame

I'm not especially fond of having my picture taken, but I'm beginning to realize that there are definitely pros to having a collection of photos. How else are you supposed to keep track of memories?
Now I know the preferred photo-storage ritual is Facebook, but here's a decorative alternative custom-made for this holiday season. Just snap a couple photos of your favorite people and craft away.

Daily Pattern: Old Fashioned Snowman-making

Topic: snowman

We don't have snow here, yet. It feels kind of weird to realize this on November 27th, but I know Minneapolis is not necessarily like my birthplace in the U.P. of Michigan, with insane amounts of snow all of the time, always.

Daily Pattern: Good Ol' Fashioned Fun

Topic: sledding

My parents have one of these old sleds at their house. I was spoiled with inner tubes as a child, so I can't imagine what it would be like using one of these metal and wood models. Still, sledding is one of those things that never stops being fun.

Daily Pattern: The Mittens

Topic: Brisk

There was this picture book I remember from when I was a kid called The Mitten. It featured an abandoned mitten that ended up housing a menagerie of animals. There was at least a chipmunk, a fox, and a bear.
I considered that, but then settled on a menagerie of mittens. In the context of the story, this image is a little frightening.

Daily Pattern: Mountainside

My other, semi-seasonal pattern is winter-y. Winter looks a lot better from this side of the year, after slogging through days and days of too-hot weather.

Daily Pattern: Hunter vs Hunted

Winter used to be my favorite season. It was my favorite season for a very long time, though recently I think autumn and spring are a little more exciting. (it's the anticipation of a new season that is thrilling rather than the season itself). Still, I really like winter–it schools summer any day. Good thing I live in a place where we have it six months out of the year.

Daily Pattern : Snowfall

Today we pulled the topic "winter". I can't say I love it, but there are times when I miss it. I was thinking about the good old Minnesota snow as I was working. Instead of drawing a pattern full of slushy garbage and cigarette butts (which is what shows up in front of the studio during the later days of winter), I did the cute side of the season. These little guys are obviously well taken care of - seems that someone has thrown seeds out for them on this cold winter day.

Daily Pattern: Snowflakes

It was tempting to do something somber and dark for winter, and I hope someone does. Because when I think of winter I think of night. But my practical side got the better of me. After all, I can't even begin to tell you how many snowflake patterns I've made in my life. Everyone always needs snowflake patterns. It's a fact of life like Death and Taxes.

So I decided to draw some simple snowflakes instead!

Daily Pattern: Christmas in July

Is Christmas in July still a thing? A lot of times we're working on Christmas things all year round, so it wasn't too difficult to come up with a holiday pattern. Back in the day, my siblings and I started making our Christmas lists around this time of year. So I suppose Christmas in July makes sense.

Daily Pattern : Bears of the Polar Variety

I love that polar bears are huge blobby white beasts with little black noses and eyes. My contribution for today is all about fun-filled, silly bears with bad posture. Right about now I'm actually pining for the cold (not sure how that's even possible) because of the sweltering humid weather over here. Look at how serene they are! Just lounging around in the cold, cold weather...
